There are sixteen lakes in a north-south direction in the Kapela mountains. These lakes spread out like a garland shape, and they are linked by waterfalls. The park spread to 113.9 square miles, and the surface of these sixteen lakes is 0.77 square miles. Over a lot of years, the Korana Creek has engraved a deep valley into limestone zones of the mountain, highly characterized by karst processes.
The creation of the Plitvice Lakes was also the result of these transformations. Also, limestone produces dykes, sills, and other structures in the karst rivers and streams. Because of this karst occurrence, the lakes became extremely blue. The creation of limestone is a continuous process by which numerous waterfalls are formed. After some time, the water changes its bed, leaving its previous direction dry, and in turn, raising new formations elsewhere. Because of that Plitvice is never the same as you see before.
