The Closest Living Relative Of The Extinct Dodo Bird (Nicobar Pigeons)

It Has Been Determined Which Bird Is The Closest Living Relative Of The Extinct Dodo Bird. Dodo birds were formerly abundant in many parts of the world but have now become extinct. This is something that many of our readers are likely well aware of. Despite this, it has been discovered that a close bird relative to the extinct Dodo still lives somewhere in the world. One of these ancestors is the Nicobar pigeon, which, in addition to being a one-of-a-kind and uncommon bird, is also recognized as the living relative most closely related to the flightless Dodo. Let’s have a look at the incredible gallery of Nicobar pigeons that have been provided below:

These birds are native to a remote island where there are no natural enemies to threaten them. One of the reasons that these gorgeous birds have such vibrant plumage is because of this particular trait. These birds have never needed to hide because there are no dangerous animals in the area. As a result, their feathers have been able to develop and keep their enchanted qualities.
The Nicobar pigeons are regarded to be in a “near threatened” status because only a few of them are left. As a result of this, it has been advocated that conservation efforts be made to assist these birds in thriving.

The Pacific and Southeast Asia are both home to these feathered creatures. The name “Nicobar Pigeon” comes from the fact that they are only found in the Nicobar Islands off the coast of India (thus the name) and further east in places like Papua New Guinea and Thailand.
