Snow and ice have always been mystical, which may be why Iceland is so appealing. The new series was created by New York City-based professional photographer/filmmaker Drew Doggett. His book, ‘In the Realm of Legends,’ highlights “the unique relationship between this land and the beautiful horses that inhabit it.”
Doggett was in Iceland for the first time. Still, he’s traveled worldwide for his other shoots seeking out unusual locations. As a result of all my work, I always find myself drawn towards near-impossible places,” he told Bored Panda. “Iceland is extraordinary, and wild horses are the perfect companions.”
There was more to the artist’s visit than just the scenery.
My passion for adventure – which I have had since I was a child – prompted me to come to Iceland and pursue a career in wildlife photography. “I read and re-read Jules Verne’s Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, knowing one day I wanted adventure in my own life,” Doggett said. It can be challenging to capture fantasy tales on film. Despite numerous challenges, the photographer spent many months planning the two-week shoot.
The most difficult part of making this series was dealing with Iceland’s erratic weather. It wasn’t long before the rain started to fall or the wind started to pick up to the point where we required shelter, so I had to take advantage of every opportunity.
As you can see from the photos, Doggett’s efforts culminated in a whimsical series. In his remarks, he hoped his viewers would leave with a feeling of ‘collective nostalgia, inspiration, and fantasy.’
